Urban Environments

After previously photographing a series of rural and urban locations, I decided to continue with this theme and photograph more vibrant urban locations. I have taken these photographs because I feel that they portray the real 'hustle and bustle' of large cities and urban environments.

I particularly like my photograph of the Eiffel Tower. I have edited the image using photoshop to enhance some of the colours; I think that by doing this, I have turned a 'nice' photograph of the Eiffel Tower into a much more bright and interesting photograph. I have done the same with two of my other photographs below. I think that by enhancing the natural colours within a photograph, it makes the eye travel around the photograph more. It has a slight cartoon and non-realistic effect which I quite like also.

I really like my photograph above; I love the bright colours which I enhanced using photoshop and also the angle and how the whole street is seen. It makes the photograph look more realistic and 'pop' out of the page. I also like how I have made the bright colours of the traffic lights very bold and they are right at the front of the picture.

People in Locations - Donna Ferrato

Donna Ferrato has taken a number of photographs of people in different locations. Like my own photographs, the person or people are the main focus and the images are portraying a strong emotion.

I particularly like the image above as I think that it portrays a similar emotion to that within my photographs. Distress, upset, anger and dispair are the emotions Donna Ferrato likes to express through the majority of her photographs; I would like to continue photographing people and locations which display these emotions strongly.

Locations - with people

I very much enjoyed photographing locations with a lot of emotion, particularly graveyards which are full of eeriness and have creepy atmospheres. I have decided to continue with the same theme and emotion. However, I am very interested in photographs with people in them and how they can change the emotion within the location. I have decided to photograph indoor locations using people or a particular person as the main focus. My images are shown below and they all follow the eerie sentiment within my previous photographs.

The girl/man are the main focus in each of the images but I like how the location is so bare and old in appearance that it adds to the emotion of the photograph.

Locations - with emotion

I have decided to look at locations with a lot of emotion. For example, Cemeteries and Graveyards have a lot of emotion. They tend to be quite eerie places and some, when photographed, look very spine-chilling. So, i have decided to photograph these locations. Two examples of my images are shown below

Amanda Norman has a series of Graveyard images which I particularly like. I like the way she has used black and white. It adds to the mysterious effect. Amanda Norman inspired me to alter the colours in my own photographs for a similar effect.
The photographs taken by Amanda Norman which I particular like are shown below.

Location - Jonathan Metz

Looking at Jonathan Metz's work inspired me to photograph more structural images of my own. I have based my new photographs on one of his images in particular. I love how it is photographed from high up so the buildings form strong lines throughout the image. I have attempted this myself in the photographs below.

I really like how the black and white effect has altered this image. Before, it did not look very interesting, but the black and white has highlighted small things that would have not been noticed previously and makes the road look darker making it the main focus; this makes the eye travel all the way through the photograph.

Location - structure

I am, and always have been intrigued by very structural photographs. I like the interesting angles that can be created by an image that is split into different sections by various methods such as the outline of buildings or the path of a river. I have taken my own photographs which I find very interesting through their structural aspects. These are shown below:

Whilst exploring structural photography, I stumbled across a photograph taken by Jonathan Metz. It is a very structural image of a view over a small village. I looked into Jonathan Metz and discovered a whole series of photographs based on structural photography. Below shows some of his images. They all photograph very different locations. Some are birds eye views, whilst others photograph a particular part of a location. However the structural aspects of each one makes them very interesting and relates them to each other.

Rural and Urban Environments - Mark Raymond Mason

Above are two of Mark Raymond Mason's Rural images. They are typical images of woodland which are throughout rural locations. He has also taken a number of images which are not typical photographs but they are representations of rural environments. Two of these are shown below

Mark Raymond Mason has also taken a series of images based on Urban environments. They are not typical Urban images but they do represent components of Urban locations.

These are shown below.
